Steven Addis talks of a random picture that was taken of him and his daughter on her first birthday by his wife in New York. A year later they all happened to be in the same place and another photograph was taken on his daughters second birthday in the exact same spot. As his daughters third birthday approached his wife suggested that he take their daughter again, hence this yearly ritual began!

 A father and daughter having precious time together; simple and perhaps obvious but so overlooked and took for granted in todays society. The small things in life are the most important.Making, sharing and building memories. 

Steven describes how their yearly event is very much anticipated and cheerished and how gradually it has changed their lives and relationship of father and daughter.Just lovely!

This TED talk spoke volumes to me when I came across it.Steven Addis gets his point over to the audience so clearly and simply.Very thought provoking. Made me cry! (it does'nt take much!!)

Christmas come down!

Well, Christmas has come and gone so fast!!!

 

Had a lovely day with my family and yes, Santa came and brought EVERYTHING on my girls list!

(which was very hard this year due to student funds running low!)

My husbands and my list must have got lost in the post though!

He also brought a special birthday present for my eldest daughter as she was 7 on Christmas day!

Looking forward to the new year now, more family staying down, more food, drink, late nights, lazy mornings in pj's! lovely!

Assignment complete!

The last few weeks have been an 'experience' to say the least!

 

Finding the odd few hours to sit down to my assignment has mostly been late at night till early hours with my head full of so much information it's hard to sleep!

 

 

 

But it's done!

finished!

 

Handing it in tomorrow and looking forward to the weekend! As much as i've enjoyed the assignment i feel its taken over my mind!!

I now know how to save my work on a memory stick!, print my work, change font, size, colour,copy and paste all without help! Not bad for a 38 year old! Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks!

 

Break up next week then my one and only Christmas night out with my lovely new uni friends in Swansea!!!

(Last time I was out in Swansea the place to be was Jumping Jacks!!??!!)

Evaluation! How easy is it to navigate? The website is very easy to navigate, set up in a clear format with links that help you go to different things on the website. Are there any help guides/videos? Yes. At the bottom of the sign in page to the right hand side there are video maker tips from their blogs that will guide you through to help you create your own animations. Do you need to register? Yes, however it is only your email address and a password. Is it free? Aspects that are free? Yes the website is free. Is it easy to use? Once you have registered you are able to use the website which is very easy to use as everything has its own side heading making it easier for learners as they know what they are doing. It is a game set up type website where you can gain points for your animations. What multimedia aspects are there? There are many multimedia aspects to the website such as sound, animations, videos and many maore. For example we made a birthday card where we wrote a message and a candle on the cake said that message. Does it provide embed codes? Yes there are codes that enable you to put your work on your blog.

The storm!!!

Since 25th September till last week I have felt that 'uni' life so far is the 'calm before the storm.'

I now feel that 'the storm' has definately arrived!

We have been given our very first assignment for the module, Historical and Contemporary Issues in Education! If you thought that was a mouthful heres the assignment:

Evaluate the contribution of a key reformer (or group) towards the development of education within the UK.

 

If I could post a bewildered, worried face on here right now I so would!!!

Most of the weekend I have had this on my mind when I am allowed to stop and think around my 2 year old , ginger,naughty, hot headed, loveable little daughter and my 6 year old blondie, One Direction fan, chatterbox of a daughter!

My husband is working a lot of overtime at the moment so my time is limited!

 

Ive finally sat down tonight to read some of my books and mind mapping and praying my girls dont wake up!!

I've told myself to slow down and take one step at a time.This is the beginning of a LOT of hard work so I have to deal with it!

So, question of the day - Am I enjoying my course so far?

 

The answer- YES, YES, YES!!!!!

Difference between blogs and websites

Last week we were given the task of observing the difference between a blog and a website. I was given the subject, "cars" and I found the following:

www.carmagazine.com

www.carscoop.co.uk

I found that on a blog it's more like a journal/diary, the language is different,informal.The overall look is different, theres opportunity for peoples points of view, less images but more adverts.

On a website it's more structured, factual, contains more links and is read only.

Hello! My name is Caren Lewis.
 I am currently in my first year at Swansea MET university studying Educational Studies.

For the past 17.5 years I have worked as a N.N.E.B. (Nursery Nurse) in a primary school in the valleys.I've been in the Nursery Department for the last 10 years but have also worked throughout the infants and juniors within the classroom and also various special needs including children with downs, kabuki, behavioural problems, dyspraxia, itinerants/gypsies, speech/ language and developmental problems.

 I moved to LLangennech,LLanelli nearly 11years ago due to my husbands new job at Corus, Trostre now known as Tata Steel.

After travelling nearly 100 miles a day for nearly 10 years and a LOT of petrol money I decided to take the plunge and resign from my full time job!
I LOVE working with children and have always wanted to be a teacher so when I had the news this year that I had been accepted on my course it was the beginning of a new adventure!
